Location: OXFORDSHIRE
Stage: PLANNING & LISTED BUILDING CONSENT
We've been commissioned for the total overhaul of a beautiful Grade II listed cottage in a village just outside Burford, West Oxfordshire that has been neglected since the 70's. Our approach will seek to restore in line with Conservation Principles while updating the home for 21st Century living and undoing poor quality later additions that detract from it's special character.
A defining consideration for us with our client has been  how we can avoid sterilising the property, while simultaneously recognising that maintenance of building fabric is required to protect, preserve and conserve. The site is comprised of an un-used thatched barn and a main house, and a simple link will stitch the two together for enhanced floorspace and usage, utilising the stone boundary wall detailing present in the village that often connects party walls between properties. Internally the condition is very poor and a careful schedule of repair along with gentle interventions to pare the spaces back to simple, open volumes dressed with quality materials will bring the building back to life as a canvas for future generations.
